Rise up, dreamers.
And the first thought has found it’s way out of the Bank! In a way it can’t be more befitting for our first post, and also is a nice way to explain why I chose Dumbo as the face of the Good Thoughts Bank. For anyone who has fallen in love with his story as much as I have (and bawled their eyes out too), they’ll know how beautifully it teaches us that being ‘different’ is not a bad thing, even if the world tries to make us think so. It also shows us that we don’t need a magic feather to fly; the magic is deep inside us – the strength, the patience, and the passion as Harriet says. And she really would know – escaping slavery in the 1800’s, going straight back to help dozens of others escape too, working as a spy, and becoming the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the war (amongst countless other achievements) is no mean feat! There’s no doubt her circumstances were very much against her, but that belief in herself, the thought that she could achieve what needed to be done, is what led her to becoming a true American icon/badass.
Of course, icon-status is probably not at the top of most people’s bucket lists. Most of us are just striving to live a happy life, and what that means exactly will of course depend on who you are. Maybe it’s financial security, a family, a dream job, travelling, running a marathon without feeling like I’m about to puke my lungs out. It doesn’t matter what the actual dream is. What matters is knowing that the key to achieving them lies with you, dreamer. And there isn’t much out there that you can’t turn into a reality, as long as you keep thinking you can.
So, as Monday rolls in tomorrow, maybe you can bring out an old dusty dream and let your inner sun shine on it once again? Who knows where this good thought might take it!
Until next week,
H & D
P.S. It’s very much my aim to make these posts as cheesy as possible, because I mean, who doesn’t like cheese? Cheeeeese Gromit!
